Museum object of the week – circa 1880 Juvet and Company globe clock http://nawcc.pastperfectonline.com/webobject/6588E463-8287-46EA-BF01-772770954190

I hope most of you have received your January/February Watch and Clock Bulletin or have logged into the online edition. I received mine mid-week and was immediately impressed by how easy the new format was to read and how much having color throughout the publication enhanced the appearance. Our editor Therese Umerlik and her staff are to be commended on the redesign. We also thank our new printer, Walsworth Printing and their facility located in Saint Joseph, Michigan for providing a full color quality publication at a lower cost than that provided by our former printer for a Bulletin that was only partially in color.

Unfortunately shortly after receiving the publication, our editor, Therese informed me that she has been offered a position as editor for a group of six private publications headquartered in the Baltimore area. She will be leaving us February 17. While under her leadership substantial improvements have been made to our publications and processes. We thank her for her twenty-one months of service to the NAWCC. We were also notified by Melissa Mann, our very capable part-time advertising services coordinator that she has been offered a full-time position with the radio station group where she has also been working part-time and will be leaving us January 20.

Over the holidays, among other year end gifts, we received a grant of $25,000 from the Crystal Trust toward the compact shelving upgrade for the Library and Research Center that is part of the capital portion of the For All Time 75th Anniversary Campaign. The total cost of the project is $78,000 and we will be seeking matching funds to allow the project to be completed. We are also seeking funds for a larger compact storage project for the museum storage area. Both of these projects will allow for substantially increasing our collections storage capacity without increasing space allocated to collections.

The NAWCC election for this year will open on Friday January 13. If you have an email linked to your member record, you will receive an email ballot on Friday and if not you will receive a mail ballot by the end of the month. Please review the candidates and bylaw amendment in your recent Watch & Clock Bulletin or online at http://nawcc.org/election and remember to VOTE!
